Acceptance of these terms

These Terms of Use ("Terms") are a legal agreement between you and Aurelius ("we", "us") governing your use of the Aurelius website and the Aurelius mobile app (together, the "Service"). By using the Service you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, do not use the Service.

What Aurelius is — and is not

Aurelius offers passages from the Stoic tradition and an AI "mentor" that discusses them with you for reflection and general educational purposes. It is a tool for contemplation, not a source of professional advice.

Aurelius does not provide medical, mental-health, psychological, legal, or financial advice, and it is not a substitute for a qualified professional or for emergency services. If you are in crisis or may harm yourself or others, contact local emergency services or a crisis line immediately.

Eligibility

You must be at least 13 years old to use the Service. If you are under the age of majority where you live, you may use the Service only with the involvement of a parent or guardian.

Your device and account

You can use Aurelius without creating a named account: the app identifies your installation by a random identifier generated on your device. Where you do sign in or subscribe, you are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of your credentials and for activity that occurs through your installation or account. Tell us promptly if you believe your access has been compromised.

Membership, billing, and auto-renewal

Aurelius offers free content and an optional paid membership ("Membership") that unlocks additional features. Membership is sold as an auto-renewable subscription on a weekly, monthly, or annual term. Current prices are shown in the app before you purchase and may vary by region.

Purchases are processed by the app store you bought through — the Apple App Store on iOS or Google Play on Android — under that store's terms. We never receive your payment details.

Your subscription renews automatically at the then-current price for the same term, and your payment method is charged, unless you cancel at least 24 hours before the current period ends. A free trial, where offered, converts to a paid subscription at the regular price unless canceled at least 24 hours before it ends; any unused portion of a free trial is forfeited when you buy a subscription.

You manage or cancel a subscription in your app store account settings (Apple: Settings → your name → Subscriptions; Google Play: Play Store → Subscriptions) — not by deleting the app. Cancellation takes effect at the end of the current billing period; you keep access until then.

Refunds are handled by the app store under its policies and applicable law; we generally cannot issue refunds directly. If we change subscription prices, we will give notice as required, and continued renewal after a price change means you accept the new price.

Acceptable use

You agree not to misuse the Service. In particular, do not: break the law or infringe others' rights; attempt to access accounts, data, or systems that are not yours; probe, scrape, overload, or interfere with the Service or its security; reverse-engineer or resell it except where that restriction is prohibited by law; or use the AI mentor to generate unlawful, harmful, or abusive content.

Content and intellectual property

The Stoic source texts Aurelius draws on are in the public domain. The Service itself — its software, design, curation, and original text — is owned by us or our licensors and is protected by intellectual-property laws. We grant you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable license to use the Service for your own non-commercial use, subject to these Terms.

You keep ownership of the messages you write in conversations. You grant us the license needed to operate the Service — to store your messages, process them (including sending the relevant context to the AI provider) to generate responses, and improve reliability — as described in our Privacy Policy.

AI-generated responses

The mentor's responses are generated by AI models and may be inaccurate, incomplete, or not suitable for your situation. Use judgment, and do not rely on them as professional advice. You are responsible for how you use anything the Service produces.

Disclaimers

The Service is provided "as is" and "as available", without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied, including merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement. We do not warrant that the Service will be uninterrupted, error-free, or secure.

Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, we will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or for lost profits or data, arising from or related to your use of the Service. Our total liability for any claim relating to the Service will not exceed the greater of the amount you paid us for the Service in the 12 months before the claim or USD 50. Some jurisdictions do not allow certain limitations, so some of these may not apply to you.

Changes and termination

We may change or discontinue features of the Service, and we may update these Terms; when we do, we will revise the "last updated" date, and significant changes will be communicated where appropriate. Continued use after changes take effect means you accept the updated Terms.

You may stop using the Service at any time. We may suspend or terminate access if you violate these Terms or to protect the Service. Cancelling your subscription is handled through your app store, as described above.

Governing law

These Terms are governed by the laws of the United States and the State of Florida, without regard to conflict-of-laws rules, except where mandatory local consumer-protection law applies to you.
